Book Journey Letter 7

Finishing the translation means that I have reached another milestone. It is a hilarious journey! In my last Book Journey Letter 6, I described my arduous efforts in completing my manuscript independently. Now, it only remained for me to have the text translated. Unfortunately, I deceived myself. However, now it is done.

Finding a Translator

After proofreading, I had to find a translator to transform my Swedish text into American English. It took me some time to find a competent person—someone with sufficient linguistic skill and knowledge about psychology and psychotherapy.

The Translator’s Re-editing

Almost as soon as he started his work, my translator learned that it was necessary to re-edit my text before translating it. Several passages in my text were formulated (in his words) in a cryptic way, making it impossible for a reader to understand what I meant. When I discussed the issue with him, he thought I omitted information and logical steps in my text.
The things I wrote about were so self-evident and familiar that I presumed the reader had extensive knowledge about my subject. Furthermore, I took it for granted that we shared similar experiences that I could refer to. In other words, I had some blind spots in my perception of my text.

Hard Work

Strenuous work started when I had to correct and extend the content. Firstly, I had to accept and comprehend my translator’s reaction. It reflected how readers would respond if they could not find meaning in some of my formulations.

The Translator made me Realize

Secondly, when I realized my shortcomings, it became more evident how to change my text so regular readers could grasp what I tried to convey. In other words, finishing the translation could be accelerated.

The Translator Improved Coherence

Thirdly, I had to reconsider some of my formulations. Notably, there were some inconsistencies in my theoretical reasoning. Ultimately, I appreciated the opportunity to make my ideas more consistent and coherent.

Grateful ot My Translator

To sum up, I am very grateful to my translator. He allowed me to augment the quality of my text and reformulate parts of my theory. I particularly respect his integrity and persistence. He was not content with my corrections several times and insisted that I reformulate again. I could not have had a better translator.

The Translated Manuscript Needs to Find a Publisher

We are almost done with the translation, so the next step is to find a publisher. I already know how difficult this can be. This week, I will start looking for a publishing company. I plan to search the Internet and then send a proposal. I hope to soon be back with a new Book Journey Letter so you can continue to follow my adventure.

I gladly want to share the headings of the chapters, as I promised in Book Journey Letter 6. For all of you who have followed my book journey or are new visitors to my blog, I will give you an idea of the contents of my Book.
