The first textbook (Swedish and Danish Text)

After completing a textbook on Motivational Work in Swedish in 1986 (until now printed in four editions, also translated into Danish), I then decided to write an English manuscript (with the help of translators) to convey my ideas to the whole world. At the same time, I wished to develop my theory and methods so that everybody could fully understand what I meant.

The Complete Version (English Text)

The book (parts 1 – 4) took 21 years to complete and was finished in 2014. During this time, I have constantly been working full-time and have used my evenings and spare time, including holidays, to write. I was surprised at how much the theory must formulate to fully describe Motivational Work. I had no idea that the work would be so extensive from the beginning. See a detailed description of the four parts of Motivational Work.

My Chapter in an Anthology (English Text)

In the anthology “Strategies for Work with Involuntary Clients“, I have contributed to chapter 16: “Working with Unmotivated Clients” (26 pages). The chapter can be seen as a summary of my method, “Motivational Work”.

This book is a frontline anthology about the field of unmotivated clients, edited by Ronald H. Rooney, professor emeritus at the School of Social Work, University of Minnesota, and Rebecca G. Mirick, assistant professor at Salem State University. It was published by Columbia University Press in May 2018.

Hence, I recommend reading the book to be oriented on the field’s ethical, theoretical, and practical complications.
