Motivational Work

Book Journey Letter 6

Writing Book Journey Letter 6

In this Book Journey Letter 6, the blog will present my intent and ideas in more detail. As promised in my latest Book Journey Letter, here is my book’s preliminary preface. In my next blog, I will list the headlines of all the chapters.

In Book Journey Letter 5

I described the arduous task of proofreading in Book Journey Letter 5. My ambitions and demands on myself made it challenging to find a finish line for corrections and adjustments.

As I mentioned in my latest blog, I felt bewitched by the manuscript. I intended to pause my editorial work and return to the text later. Unfortunately, the plan did not work out. I could not stop occupying myself with my future book.

Nine Attacks of Migraine

Ultimately, I managed to break the spell, but it was not through my merit. Instead, my brain communicated that enough is enough. After having nine attacks of migraine for four weeks, I eventually gave up. It became impossible to proceed with the proofreading. Finally, I had an attack every time I worked on the manuscript.

Breaking the Spell for Good?

My brain’s dialog forced me to relax. At present, my pace is much calmer, and I plan to proofread the book one last time at the end of July. Since I stopped working on the manuscript, I have not had a single attack of migraine.

In this Book, Journey Letter 6, I have added headlines and italicized the letters in the preface to make the text more easily readable and recognizable.

Preface

This book is intended to make it easier for everyone to live a meaningful and prosperous life. Traditional psychology can assist us to some extent in unleashing our positive life energy. However, a new psychology is necessary to offer support and inspiration.

Motivational Work

I have been working on this book for some time. Over the years, I have developed my method, Motivational Work, to assist unmotivated and destructive clients in social services, psychiatry, correctional services, and childcare. As a result, the general psychology within the method has been embedded within the description of how to assist unmotivated and destructive clients.

During this period, I have also presented lectures on my approach, and the audience has shown great interest in the general psychological theory behind Motivational Work.

The method has also been personally significant for my family and professional life. It has aided me when offering advice to those closest to me.

The Underlying General Psychological Theory

The experiences I’ve described have convinced me that explaining how to apply the general psychological theory that underlies Motivational Work is valuable. It would allow my method to assist and support many more people.

Based on Real-Life Situations

My goal has been to make my ideas applicable to everyone’s lives. The examples in the book are based on real-life situations but are anonymized and mixed up.

When it comes to general reasoning, the doer is often referred to as “he”. Since I am a “male” myself, it has felt natural to use the masculine. This choice does not mean that the focus should be on men. Whenever possible, I have chosen gender-neutral formulations.

My gratitude to my Wife and Extended Family

Finally, I would like to extend my thanks to my entire extended family. They have taught me a lot about life. I especially want to express my gratitude to my wife for always offering her full support and encouragement.

We both share the ideas in the book, and my wife has been an important discussion partner. Her experiences as a social worker, family therapist, and supervisor have further contributed to the depth of the theory. I have learned from her about families and foster children.

As a reader, I hope you can enrich your life and gain new insights through this book.

Comments and Reflections on Book Journey Letter 6

By studying the preface, I give you a more concrete picture of what my book is about. I appreciate your comments and reflections, especially in this late phase of my manuscript creation. Almost all trains have already left the station. Besides, I wouldn’t say no to some encouragement.
